Dear Diary

Happiness life hacks you actually need

Jis, depression is tough though. I’m pretty sure that people assume that you just pop a little pill and you’re the vision of happiness, amirite? That isn’t how it works, and you do need a little something extra to get through the day.

I’ve been determined to be happier lately. Like obsessively so and it’s paying off. It started with me realising (finally) that how I think determines how I feel, which affects how my day goes and so the cycle starts. I had to do something about it. So, I started changing a few things in my life that actually worked and I’m pretty certain that if I carry on with these “hacks”, it will just get better.

You deserve happiness

We all do, which is why I tell myself that every morning. I remind myself that I am pretty wonderful and that I will have a wonderful day. Because when you are wonderful and believe that you deserve wonderful things in your life, wonderful things happen. Yes, I said wonderful a lot in that last sentence, but you get the point.

I’m really hard on myself, so I needed to start fixing the self-imposed damaged that I’ve caused to myself over the years. So, I’m telling myself that I deserve everything good in the world and believing it.

Avoiding miserable people

You can’t hide away from the moaning Myrtle of your office (unless working from the office loo is an option for you), but you can try. If you know for a fact that someone is a serial complainer on social media, unfollow them. You heard me, unfollow them.

Look, you don’t have to have a million Facebook friends or Twitter followers, we aren’t children anymore. You don’t need that kind of validation to be relevant, and they’re just making you feel miserable. You know exactly who I’m talking about too, right? The people who have the hardest life in the history of bad lives. Because I’m so tired of those people affecting my mood, I’ve gone as far as avoiding social media all together so that they don’t break my stride.

Create a happiness soundtrack

I’m a big music lover but who isn’t? The music that I’m listening to can really affect my mood, so listening to something heartbreaking is going to break my damn heart. You can’t avoid listening to music that evokes emotion, but you can create a playlist to boost your mood.

I created a “happiness” playlist on Deezer that I listen to in the morning. It sets up my day to be a happier one, especially when I can sing along to what I’m listening to.

You were expecting more, weren’t you? This is all I’ve changed lately and it’s all I’ve needed to do to be happier than I’ve ever been. Ever. When you are happier, look at life through different eyes and complain less, people tend to be a lot nicer to you too. You have a happier aura, which people like being around and it’s certainly working for me.

I love hearing from you, so leave your thoughts in the comments below. Follow me on Facebook and Twitter for more real talk, snappy snaps and fun.

Until next time.

Xoxo
