How to stay motivated in the winter

It’s getting colder in the morning, it’s basically still midnight when my alarm clock goes off at 6am now and I am longingly longing for comfort food. Winter is pretty much clawing her way into our peep-toe pumps and there is nothing we can do about it.


For some of us, colder weather means the end of a gym routine and for good reason too, I mean who wants to hit a gym when others are hitting snooze?

But, let’s be real for a minute here, summer bodies are made in the winter and revealing the hottie under those layers come Spring makes for a compelling enough reason. Well, for me, that’s exactly how I see it and exactly why I’ve created this guide on staying motivated during the winter chill.

I am not a morning person

Who is? And if they say they are, they’re probably lying because winter mornings are like surviving the first round of the Spanish Inquisition. Yes, I went as dark as a winter morning. Instead of skipping gym entirely when you reach for the snooze button, rather move your training and classes to the afternoon or evening. This way you’re getting use out of the extra hour of darkness (by being in bed), and you’re still getting your sweat glow.

Salad isn’t funny in Winter

I hear you! Their jokes are limp and uninteresting during the winter months, so who can blame you for being cold toward them? Okay, enough of the puns already.
Winter doesn’t mean the end of clean eating, in fact, it’s just the beginning of eating clean and wholesome food that warms you from the inside out. I’m the biggest fan of a good curry which is the perfect dish for a chilly winter evening, here are a bunch of great recipes that I can take no credit for (but that you should try out).

But water is so cold

Yes, and dry skin looks awful and takes ages to recover when you’re dehydrated (which happens quicker in winter). I know it’s tough to make sure you’re getting your 2 to 3 litres of water a day, but it’s really important to stay hydrated. Plus, you can substitute some of that with 100% coconut water, which is basically the best thing on earth.

But I’ll need new gym clothes

Why? Have you felt what it feels like inside a gym when it is winter? It’s the same temperature that it is in Summer and you’re going to sweat all the same. I’ve only ever bought one hoody for gym and have only ever worn it on the way there. I go to workout and sweat, and so should you. That being said, who doesn’t love a legit(ish) reason to get new kit?
